About

Fourteen agencies publish this. None of them joins it.

Sunshine File is one small company in Tampa that fetches Florida public records every morning, matches them to a parcel, and puts them on one page.

01

Why it exists

Every dataset on this site is already public and already free. Ownership sits with the property appraiser, deeds with the clerk, permits with the city, code cases in a third system, evacuation zones in a GIS hub. Each is a separate search form. None of them talks to the others.

Answering an ordinary question — what has happened to this house — means visiting six sites and knowing which six. The joining is the work, and the joining is what you get here.

The second thing you get is memory. The Clerk keeps two months of the daily index online. We fetch it every day and keep it, so a lien recorded today is still attached to the parcel in five years.

02

What we refuse to build

There is an obvious version of this site that makes more money: add mugshots, add search by a person’s name, put arrest records next to an address, and sell the anxiety. It is a well-populated market.

We are not building it, and the refusals are in the database rather than in a policy page — there is no person-name index to query, no arrest table to join, and police calls are aggregated to the street segment before they are ever stored against anything.

We once filed a records request for booking photographs, then withdrew it. Both the request and the withdrawal are in the records log, because a log that shows only the good decisions is not a log.

How to check our work

Every figure on this site carries the dataset it came from and the moment we last fetched it. Where a dataset does not exist, we say so and show the public records request we filed for it.

Sunshine File

Built in Tampa from Florida public records under Chapter 119 and Art. I § 24. No mugshots. No search by a person’s name. No arrest records tied to individuals. Police calls are shown by block, never against a home.
